IBM PowerPC Star IP Cores 
High Performance, Fully-Synthesizable Microprocessor Cores 

IBM LogoThe DesignWare PowerPC 405, 460 and 460 Floating Point Unit (FPU) Star IP cores are process-portable versions of IBM’s PowerPC PowerPC 405 and 460 microprocessors, making the Power Architecture available to all SoC designers for a broad range of applications. Synopsys re-designed the cores to make them fully synthesizable and replaced the custom-designed memories with commonly available on-chip SRAM components.

The synthesizable cores maintain full compatibility with the PowerPC specification and existing implementations. Through the available CoreConnect peripherals, each core has an AMBA AHB interface for compatibility with the DesignWare on-chip bus solution and other AMBA-based DesignWare IP, enabling complete plug-and-play microprocessor subsystems.

In collaboration with Synopsys, IBM makes the synthesizable PowerPC 405 and 460 cores available through the Synopsys DesignWare® Star IP program. Synopsys distributes Design Views of the cores to DesignWare Library licensees at no additional charge. The Design Views include the simulation and timing models, a verification environment and documentation.

For an additional fee, DesignWare Library users may license the Implementation Views of the PowerPC 405 and 460 Core, including the RTL, from IBM or Synopsys.

System-Level Design
In addition to the PowerPC DesignWare Star IP components, Synopsys provides SystemC-based transaction-level models (TLMs) of the PowerPC 405 and 460 processors, as well as a broad range of CoreConnect peripherals, through the DesignWare System-Level Library. These TLMs enable system-level designers to build virtual platforms of PowerPC-based embedded systems for pre-silicon software development, months before hardware is available.

Synopsys Professional Services is an authorized Power Architecture™ Design Center, providing consulting and design services to PowerPC licensees as well as the ability to sub-license the synthesizable PowerPC cores with rights for customers to manufacture their PowerPC-based designs at any foundry of their choosing. With intimate knowledge of the Power Architecture gained through customer engagements as well as the creation of the synthesizable PowerPC 460-S and PowerPC 405-S cores for IBM, our services team is uniquely qualified to help implement your PowerPC-based SoC.
